710,892. Sawing stone. KLOMP, P. P. Nov. 1, 1951 [Nov. 6, 1950; Jan. 31, 1951], No. 25568/51. Class 124. In a gantry for the cutting of stone into square-faced blocks, an endless chain cutter moves in a blade which may be disposed either horizontally or vertically and independent means are provided for horizontal displacement of the gantry and vertical movement of the chain-carrying blade. As shown, a gantry moves on rails 3, a chain blade 6 is arranged to pivot about a horizontal axis so as to be in either a horizontal or a vertical plane, and rotation of the threaded shafts 11 and 14 causes vertical movement of the blade, which carries nuts 13 and 15 and moves up and down guides 17. The vertical movement of the blade and horizontal movement of the gantry may be power driven or by hand through suitable gearing. In an alternative form, the blade and motor assembly is suspended by a winchoperated cable which effects the vertical movement, the motor acting as a counter weight so that the blade can be supported near one end.
