Abstract
710,756. Clocks. JUNGHANS AKT.- GES, GEB. Jan. 24, 1951 [Jan. 24, 1950], No. 1849/51. Class 139 A device for the automatic regulation of the beat of pendulum clocks comprises a pin crutch connecting the anchor arbor and the pendulum, said crutch having an anchor lever and a driven lever interconnected by a toothed lock consisting of a toothed segment and a toothed slide, and co-operating control cams or surfaces, partly on an element of the toothed lock and partly on a fixed part of the clock mechanism for releasing the toothed lock for as long as the pendulum is exceeding its predetermined mean range of oscillation. The anchor shaft 13, Fig. 2, carrying the anchor 6 is rocked by the pendulum through a crutch linkage comprising a pin 3, Figs. 2 and 3, which engages a slot 17a. in the pendulum 17, a driver lever 2, a gear segment 4 pivoted to an anchor lever 1 at 5, and a slide 7 having teeth which are urged by a spring 9 into mesh with the segment 4 and slidable along a lever 1 attached to the anchor shaft 13. If the amplitude of oscillation of the pendulum 17 is normal the segment 4 and the slide remain constantly in mesh, the part of the segment with which the slide meshes depending on the position of the clock. If the amplitude of oscillation of the pendulum exceeds the normal a pin 8 on the slide 7 rides up one of the surfaces 11l, 12r of a double wedge member 10 fixed to a frame plate and the slide is moved away from the segment 4 which rotates about its pivot to alter the relative positions of the slide 7 and the segment 4 which re-engage when the pendulum oscillation amplitude returns to normal. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the member 10 is replaced by two stop pins which co-operate with two inclined faces on the slide.
