710,449. Opening containers. BOWATERS DEVELOPMENT & RESEARCH, Ltd. Jan. 16, 1953 [Jan. 28, 1952], No. 2318/52. Classes 18, 66 and 94 (1) A container has a ripcord 2 circumferentially incorporated in the material of the body of the container below the rim of its mouth and a lid closure 10 extending inside the mouth and being bonded im position by a seal 12 above the rip-cord 2 and by a breakable seal 11 below the cord so that when the cord is operated and the lid 10 thereafter polled the seal 11 is broken and the lid 10 together with the top section 16 of the container wall will be removed. Preferably the lid has a flange 8 overlying the rim and overlapping the outside of the container wall to am extent short of the rip-cord 2 and this overlap is bonded by a seal 13 to the outside of the wall. The bottom closure is sealed at 14, 15. The bonds 11-15 may be made by a heat-sealing thermoplastic material previously coated on the parts to be bonded. The bonds 11-13 may form part of a continuous band of bonding material lying between the lines 11 and 13.
