Abstract
710,164. Winding yarn &c. MANCHESTER METAL WORKS, Ltd., COLLE, V. G. VAN., and FISHWICK, T. March 11, 1953 [March 21, 1952], No. 7324/52. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XVI] An expansible . mandrel comprises a cylindrical body 11 having a central longitudinal bore, a spigot 12 slidably located in the bore, a plurality of arcuate segments 13 attached substantially concentrically to the body 11 in such a manner as to be allowed a limited radial movement, and each segment 13 having a plurality of pins 17 spaced over the length thereof and extending through apertures 16, which may be key-hole slots, in the body, the ends of the pins 17 resting in annular grooves 18 in said spigot 12 in one axial position thereof to provide a mandrel of reduced diameter, and upon the spigot 12 being moved into another axial position, as by a screwed portion 15 working in a threaded cap 14, the spigot being rotated by a knurled wheel 20, the pins 17 then being forced radially outwards by inclined surfaces on the spigot 12 to provide a mandrel of enlarged diameter. Blind holes 2 may be included so that a key may be used for turning the spigot. Instead of key-hole slot attachments 16, the segments 13 may be attached to the body 11 by circular clips or spring eyelets.
