Abstract

709,917. Snap-action switches. TRICO-FOLBERTH. Ltd. Jan. 8, 1952 [Jan. 8, 1951; June 27, 1951], Nos. 545/51 and 15271/51. Class 38(5) [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVIII] The switch handle extends into a casing and co-operates with a pair of flexible contactcarrying strips which are fixed at each of their ends, pivoting of the handle causing flexing of one of the strips to close a circuit. In one arrangement, Fig. 1 the handle 4 is pivoted at 3 and has slots formed by lateral extensions 5 joined by rivets 6, the strips 7 located in said slots being normally curved as shown so as to hold the handle in its central "off" position. Each strip 7 carries contacts 13, 14 co-operating respectively with output contacts 17 and earthing contacts 15. Movement of the handle to either end position reverses the curvature of one strip to close one pair of contacts 14, 17, and increases the curvature of the other strip to close contacts 13, 15 (if not already closed). A lamp 21 is connected across the terminals 10 to which the upper ends of strips 7 are connected. In a second arrangement, Fig. 8, the handle has a universal mounting and cooperates with two pairs of strips 7 arranged at right-angles to each other. When the handle has been moved into any of its corresponding operative positions, e.g. the upper position, it may be moved in a direction at right angles to close another pair also, e.g. the left-hand pair, the slots in the handle being large enough to permit this without interfering with the initially-closed contacts. The switch has two indicator bulbs, one for each opposite pair of strips 7. The switches may be used for controlling direction indicators and/or head, side and rear lights (see Groups XXXV and XXXVIII).
