709,750. Multi-ply bags. MEDWAY PAPER SACKS Ltd.. WINSKILL, J. W.. and HOBDAY, G. M. Sent. 15, 1952 [Sept. 13, 1951], No. 21559/51. Class 94 (2) A multi-ply paper bag 1 is provided with a weakening line or a line of perforations 5 in the outer ply 3 whereby the whole or part of the outer ply may be removed in order that the bag may be used again, for example, for a lower grade product than the original contents. More than one ply may be removed, each ply being printed to indicate the products to be contained at each use. If is is not necessary for the bag to present a new appearance, only the part of the outer ply bearing the indication of the product originally packed in the bag may be remtoved, a paste line 2 between the outer and adjacent ply defining the part to be removed. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), strips of thin cardboard or like material are provided along each end of the bag which strengthen the sewing and serve as an edge against which the outer ply can be torn off. The weakening lines may be extended to cover the gusset portion and may be provided on block bottom bags. Cut out portions or slits may be provided to facilitate the removal of the ply.
