708,894. Hand grips for vehicles. AUSTER, Ltd., and SMALL, W. W. March 30, 1953 [June 28, 1952], No. 16340/52. Class 103(4) A hand grip for use in passenger vehicles of the kind which is hinged or pivoted to depend from the roof of the vehicle, is provided with a pair of springs: disposed one on each side of the pivoted end of the hand grip whereby one or both of the springs moves the hand grip into a parking position when it is released from use: In the construction shown, the hand grip comprises a stirrup portion 1 fixed to a shank 3 carrying a pivot-pin 4 which is rotatably mounted in apertures in a forked bracket 6 fixed to the roof of a vehicle. The ends of the pivot-pin 4 are reduced in diameter and are slotted each to receive one end of a flat volute spring 8, the other end being anchored to a pin 12 carried by a cover plate 10. The springs are wound in the same direc - tion so that they both tend to keep the hand-grip in the parking position. Spring- pressed plungers 13 may be provided for engagement on nobs 16 in the forked sides of the bracket 6, so that they give slight resistance to movement from the parking position. In a modification the volute springs are wound in opposite directions so that either one or the other is effective to return the hand grip to the parking position after use.
