[Also in Group XXIII] In a hand brake lever mechanism for vehicles of the kind comprising a tubular brakeoperating lever 7 which is fulcrumed to an attachment plate 9 and incorporates a ratchet pawl 14 operable by a spring- loaded transmission member or push-rod 18 in the tubular lever and adapted to co-operate with a toothed quadrant 10 on the plate 9, the lever being capable of transmitting angular movement to an arm 11 to which brake-operating mechanism can be connected, such lever member being characterized in that it is flattened, as at 24, at its pivotal end into an approximate D cross-section so that the flat surface can be substantially flush with an adjacent flat surface of the attachment plate 9 and the remote end part of the lever is swaged to a relatively small crosssection thereby to form a handle which can be optionally covered by a tubular embellishing hand grip. The hand grip 26 may be made of a thermosetting material and may be mounted over a bush 28 which is screwed to the outer end 25 of the tubular lever or, alternatively, as shown in Fig. 4, the embellishing hand grip 26 made of thermosetting material may be screwed internally, as at 29, to the screwed end of the tubular lever 7.
