Abstract

A polyvinyl resin such as polyvinyl acetate, polystyrene and polymethylmethacrylate in solution in an organic solvent of boiling point below 100 DEG C. or one forming azeotropes with water which boil below 100 DEG C., is injected into a dilute aqueous solution of a dispersing agent at a temperature sufficient to vaporize the solvent and cooled with constant stirring so as to produce the polymer in granular form. The solution is preferably injected as one or several streams under the surface of the stirred aqueous solution of dispersing agent which is maintained at a temperature above the boiling point of the organic solvent. Specified dispersing agents are polyvinyl alcohol, ethylhydroxyethyl cellulose, the sodium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium alginate and the sodium salt of the copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride. Specified organic solvents are benzene, methyl alcohol, and methyl acetate.
