Abstract
708,836. Turbine and compressor blades. SOC. RATEAU, and ANXIONNAZ, R. Aug. 9, 1951 [Oct. 26, 1950], No. 18817/51. Class 110(3) In a turbine or compressor, vibration of the rotor blades is damped by means of a wire or tube secured to one blade and passing through at least one adjacent blade in frictional engagement therewith, the part of the wire or tube between the blades having a cross-section either smaller than that of the part secured to or passing through a blade, or profiled to reduce aerodynamic resistance to the fluid flow. In Fig. 1, the wires c<SP>1</SP>, c<SP>2</SP> each pass through four blades a, being secured to the two end blades of each group at d<SP>1</SP> and passing with frictional engagement through the middle two blades at d, the wires being of reduced cross-sectional areas between blades. In a second embodiment, the wire is given an elliptical shape between blades. In a further embodiment, a tubular member is used, the tube being flattened between adjacent blades.
