A cinematograph sound film, having an optical sound track with either a variable density or symetrical variable area track, has a magnetic sound track in overlapping relationship laterally of the optical track, by which means the optically produced sound may be augmented to improve the quality of reproduction or to provide a language translation which could be erazed while still retaining the original language recording. The magnetic track may be arranged in sections appearing on alternate sides of the optical track so that a wider head may be employed and thereby'reduce the effect of wear. The film may also be provided with leading or trailing abrasive portions of the same width as the magnetic pole-pieces for the purpose of equalising the wear over the whole of the contact surface of the transducer.
