Abstract
388,385. Recording optical soundrecords. NUBLAT, R. L. A., 17, Boulevard du Grand-ChÛne, Le Parc St-Maur, Seine, and SOC. D'ETUDES POUR L'EXPLOITATION DES BREVETS NUBLAT, 56, Rue de Paradis, Paris, both in France. Aug. 17, 1931, No. 3769/33. Divided on 388,373. [Class 40 (ii).] Optical sound-records are mechanically recorded by means of a vibrating stylus which cuts a sinuous groove of constant width in an opaque coating on a transparent support, while a fixed stylus cuts a rectilinear groove which overlaps one side of the sinuous groove. A cutting stylus 12 is vibrated transversely of a moving film 1 under the influence of sound currents fed to an electromagnetic apparatus 14 to form a sinuous groove 3, Fig. 3, of constant width. The apparatus 14 is fixed to a bracket 16 by means of a screw 17, Fig. 1, the knurled head 18 of which permits the stylus 12 to be adjusted relatively to the film 1. A fixed cutting stylus 21, secured in a socket 23 attached to the apparatus 14, cuts a groove 20 having rectilinear edges, one edge of which overlaps one edge of the groove 3. The resultant groove forms a variable-width record which can be reproduced by optical means. If desired, the rectilinear groove may be cut either before or subsequent to the formation of the sinuous groove.
