[Class 40 (ii).] A sound record on a disc, ribbon, or other surface is copied on to a similar or different surface by means of an electromagnetic pick-up engaging the record and delivering the current induced therein through a valve amplifier to a recording tool acting by cutting or heat, and the current fed to the recorder may be modified in any desired manner or may have superposed thereon current from a microphone or reproduced from another record and constituting for example an accompaniment of the matter on the original record. The copy record may be driven at a different speed to the original record during recording, and its speed may be synchronized with a picture film if intended to be used in association therewith.
