Abstract

708,496. Multiple guns; firing mechanism, VERWALTUNGSGES. DER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Aug. 7, 1952 (Aug. 8, 1951], No. 19956/52. Class 92(2) A trigger device on multiple gun mountings for automatic guns, comprises at least one camshaft 18 in the gun cradle 3, identical cams 17 arranged on the shaft and angularly offset with respect to each other, actuating means controlled by the gunner's trigger lever 9 for moving the cams in one direction, and means for regulating the speed of movement of the cams. The arrangement is such that, through the agency of the lever 9 and the regulating device, the trigger mechanisms of the guns are initially operated in succession at time intervals adapted to the firing sequence, and are released in the same sequence. Trigger lever assembly. The lever 9, Figs. 1 and 12, is mounted on a pin 28 on the sighting arm 5 and carries clamp members 9a which grip the gunner's forearm. The lever is integral with a threearmed lever 29 which is linked at 32 to a similar lever 31 pivoted at 30. Members 33, 34 pivot freely on the pins 28, 29, and have pin and slot connections 35, 37a and 36, 37b with a rod 37. One end of this rod is connected by linkwork 10 to the trigger mechanism and the other end to the piston of an adjustable hydraulic device, Fig. 13 (not shown), constituting the speed regulating mechanism: When lever 9 is depressed its arm 29c rotates the member 33 clockwise, but member 34 is held by the engagement of a catch 43, pivoted thereon, with a fixed stop 5b. A spring 44 extending between this catch and a similar catch 42 on the member 33 is thereby stressed until the arm 31a of member 31 lifts and releases the catch 43, the other catch in the meantime being located near a fixed stop 5a. Upon release, the member 34 is rotated by the spring 44 to drive the rod 37 to the right, the speed being controlled by the regulating device. A similar sequence takes place when lever 9 is returned to its original position. Trigger mechanism. The movement of rod 37 is transmitted to a rod 27, Figs. 2 and 5, thus serving to rotate two geared levers 23, 24 in opposite directions. Pawls 21, 22, pivoted to these levers are interconnected by a spring 25 and engage pins 20 on a disc 19 secured to the camshaft 18. This arrangement is such that the shaft rotates clockwise through 90 degrees whatever the direction of movement of the rod 27. A plunger 49 and flats 18a, Fig. 2, holds the shaft in the adjusted position. As shown in Fig. 6 the two cams 17 are spaced angularly on the shaft and serve to lift, in the regulated timed sequence, two bars 13 which in turn serve to rotate the trigger levers 11 of the guns.
