Class 64(2) [Also in Group XI] In a heating system in which current passes between electrodes through a liquid to be vaporized in a tank (see Group XI), the liquid comprises a mixture of a glycol and an electrolyte. Ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, propylene glycol or dipropylene glycol is used, and the electrolyte added is about 5-12 per cent of the liquid. Soda ash or other alkali metal carbonate, bicarbonate, phosphate or halide, e.g. sodium chloride or trisodium phosphate, is used as electrolyte. The boiler is applied to jacketed kettles, sterilizers or autoclaves, or the vapour may be circulated to a mould or other heat-exchanger, the condensate returning to the,boiler.
