Abstract

A lipstick composition contains a bromo-fluorescein and an antihistamine compound in an amount to reduce the irritative effect of the bromofluorescein. 0.3 to 15 per cent bromofluorescein is employed as the mono-, di-, tri-, tetra or higher bromofluorescein, of which the di- and tetra-compounds are preferred. 0.25 to 30, and preferably 0.5-5, per cent antihistamine is used. The composition may also contain (a) up to 20 per cent of a propylene glycol as a solvent for the bromofluorescein; (b) 25 to 45 per cent of a mineral or vegetable oil such as castor oil, and lanolin; (c) 25 to 45 per cent of a wax, e.g. mixture of beeswax, carnauba wax, ozokerite and paraffin wax, and lecithin; (d) 5 to 15 per cent of lake colours and/or a pigment; (e) 0.025 to 1 per cent saccharin; (f) up to 1 per cent of a non-ionic wetting agent, e.g. polyethylene glycol mono-laurate and (g) perfume and preservative, e.g. butyl p-hydroxybenzoate. Specified antihistaminics are: (N-p-methoxy-benzyl)-N1, N1 dimethyl N-a-pyridyl ethylenediamine maleate, beta-diethylamino-ethyl esters of a, a-diphenyl acetic acid, N, N-dimethyl-3-phenyl-3-(2-pyridyl)-propylamine, and N, N-dimethyl-2-(di-phenylmethoxy) ethylamine.
