Abstract
<PICT:0707472/III/1> In an electrostatic separator for liquids, and in particular for separating the constituents of emulsions as in the dehydration of crude petroleum, a horizontal cylindrical vessel 10 contains a number of pairs of oppositely charged electrodes 16 and 17, and the liquid is discharged downwardly between the electrodes by distributers 25 within the vessel. The electrodes may comprise a number of pairs of parallel plates on each side of the vessel as shown, in which case the distributers are pairs of openings fed by vertical conduits, or they may comprise two pairs of plates each extending for substantially the whole length of the vessel, when p the distributers are two feed pipes running along the vessel above the pairs of plates and perforated on their undersides.
