707,138. Autamatic speed control ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 17, 1951 [Aug. 23, 1950], No. 20838/50. Class 38 (4) In e.g. a paper making machine having a sequence of motors operating at predetermined speed relationship, each motor having a separate automatic speed control system manually operated switches are provided for temporarily 'altering the speed of any motor relative to the preceding motor without altering its speed relationship with the following motors in the sequence in order to remove.unwanted loops of paper which may form between sections. As shown in each section control system the speed of the motor such as M1 is controlled by comparing the voltage of a tachometer generator T1 with a reference voltage from a potentiometer SRI in a comparator C1 controlling the field of a Ward Leonard generator G1. Temporary speed adjustment is provided by switches S1, S2, S3 making connection with a centre tapped resistor R in series with the master regulator MR. Operation of any of these switches in one direction or the other increases or decreases the reference voltage applied to that section and the following sections. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 660,143.
