Abstract
706,949. Slicing-machine adjustments. HARTMAN, W. W: Jan: 7, 1952 (Jan. 12, 1951], No. 463/52. Class 5 (1). [Also in Groups V, VIII and XXIII] In simultaneous slicing of food, timber, plastics, rubber, &c. by a row of spaced blades or endless bandsaws 20 the slice thicknesses can be rapidly adjusted by swinging control bars 41' about a pivot 40 whereby the attached, parallel links 43 slide their attached saw &c. guides 21 proportionately along their carrying bar 35 until the required spacing of the saws &c. is obtained. In Fig. 2 each endless bandsaw 20 is stretched over spaced rollers, not shown, and may be crossed. Each run of the bandsaws is guided in upper and lower belt fork guides 21 adjustable for spacing as above. The adjustments are made by turning a handle 82, Fig. 1, which rotates a pair of adjacent worms 71 to draw the toothed segments 70, 72 and their attached control bars 41 nearer to or further away from each other equally. Intergearing also provides for the similar adjustments of the upper set of knife guides 21 by their control bars 41. A pointer 98 on a scale 100 indicates the spacing for slice thickness. Stops 74, 75 provide limits to the movement of the gear segment 70 so that the guides cannot be spaced too far apart or bunched too close together. The gap between the upper and lower sets of guides 21 may be adjusted to suit the height of the material to be sliced by mounting the upper set of guides and controls for bodily up and down adjustment by gear 30 &c. The links 43 may be so mounted at their ends that they overlap slightly, Fig. 12 (not shown) to eliminate the need for using rather narrow links. The bases 56, Fig. 6, of the guides 21 may be stepped to allow some telescoping of one into the other as they slide along 35 to close-spacing position.
