Abstract

630,451. Machines for cutting indiarubber. WILLIAMS, H. R. April 3, 1947, No. 9062. [Classes 70 and 87 (ii)] A mass of raw indiarubber is cut into slabs, slices or chunks by passing a plurality of spaced runs or stretches of electrically heated wire or wires through the mass. In a preferred apparatus a rectangular frame 11 provided at its ends with grooved guide wheels 12 which move up and down in uprights (not shown) is fitted with a plurality of resistance wires 15. These wires may be placed from side to side as well as from end to end. The expansion of the wires is taken up by wing nuts 24 acting on screw threaded stems 22. The frame 11 may be partially counterbalanced by counterweights attached to the end of ropes passing over pulleys.
