706,775. Moulding sugar loaves or cubes. MIRRLEES WATSON CO., Ltd., and MARTINDALE, C. Dec. 20, 1951 [Feb. 8, 1951], No. 3082/51. Class 87 (2) Sugar loaves or cubes are moulded by feeding moist sugar on to a travelling conveyer equipped with transverse angle-bars 14 articulated to the conveyer and formed with spaced slots 15 for intersection at the moulding station by fixed spaced separator strips 16 which define with the bars 14 sugar-containing cells or cubicles 17. The cubes thus formed pass from the moulding station each with two sides and one face exposed and traverse a drying chamber 11 where they are dried by infra-red or resistance heaters arranged on one or both sides of the conveyer. As the conveyer passes around the chain sprocket at 19, the space between the bars 14 increases and the cubes are removed. The strips 16 (one only shown in Fig. 4) are fixed to transverse end members 21 by a pin 23, Fig. 9, at one end and a bar 24 at the other, the member 21 at the exit end of the moulding station being formed with a bevelled surface 21' which presses the upper surface of the cubes as they pass under it The feeding hopper (not shown) is vibrated and the moulding frame 16, 21 may be vibrated also.
