Abstract

706,346. Hose couplings; hoses. HOOVER, Ltd. June 20, 1951 [June 29, 1950], No. 14641/51. Classes 99 (1) and 99 (2). In a suction-cleaner coupling wherein a rigid tube 14 is secured to a flexible hose 10 and has a latch, e.g. a detent 19 and a press-button 22 carried on a leaf-spring 20 lying in a recess 21, for connection of the tube to a co-operating fitting, a semi-elastic sleeve 23 surrounds the tube and extends beyond the end of the tube to protect the hose against being bent too sharply. The press-button is covered by .and operated by pressure upon a soft part of the sleeve which may have a flange cemented to a ring 25 secured to the tube; also, the sleeve may taper both in diameter and thickness, the hose may comprise a helical coil 11 of spring wire covered by a seamless tube 12 of polyvinyl chloride or copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, and a cord 13 of the same material as the tube wound between the convolutions of the coil 11 and bonded to the tube. The end turns of the coil 11 may fit between circumferential ribs 15 of the tube 14 and be secured in place by friction tape 16, the cord 13 being secured to the tube 12 by friction tape 17 over which is applied a few turns of non-elastic cord 18.
