Abstract
706,303 Cutting nitrocellulose. AKTIEBOLAGET KEMISK-TEKNISK APPARATUR. Aug. 21, 1952 [Sept. 1, 1951] No. 21049/52. Class 59 Apparatus for cutting nitrocellulose in suspension comprises a casing 21 with an inlet 1 and an outlet 26, plates 3 for guiding the suspension along the edges of fixed knives 4 which co-operate with the edges of knives 9 mounted on a rotatable shaft 15 and associated with further guide plates 14, a stuffing box 20 surrounding the shaft at its entrance into the casing and being connected to lines for supplying liquid under pressure to prevent the fibres from clogging and squeezing. The pressure liquid is supplied to chamber 22 below the stuffing box and also to spaces 23, 24 formed at the outer and inner ends of the knives. The shaft 15 is adjustable axially, to vary the spacing between the edges of the knives 4 and 9, by means of a sleeve 18. The knives 9 and the plates 14 may have their surfaces inclined to serve as a pumping wheel for the suspension.
