Abstract
706,136. Roller clearers. CASABLANCAS HIGH DRAFT CO., Ltd. Aug. 7, 1952 [Sept. 26, 1951], No. 22507/51. Class 120(2) In a spinning or other preparatory machine wherein consecutive pairs of top rollers are carried by common neck portions in pivoted support arms, so that between consecutive pair of support arms there are two lines of drafting rollers, the top roller clearers are carried in frames which are disposed between adjacent support arms and are pivoted at their rear ends in a readily detachable manner. The clearers 20, 22, Fig. 1, each co-operate with rollers in both lines. The support arms 1 are pivoted at 2 in brackets 3 mounted upon the bar 4 at the rear of the drafting rollers. Slots 12 are provided upon the clearer frame 10, Fig. 2, to pivot upon projections 11 on facing sides of the brackets 3, Fig. 1. In the operative position the frame 10 rests by shoulders 13a engaging projections 14 on the brackets 3. The frame may be raised to an inoperative position (broken lines), Fig. 1, in which recesses 13b engage the projections 14. The clearer pivots rest in guide slots 17 and 18 which are shaped to prevent the clearers falling out in the raised position. To detach the frame 10 and clearers from the machine the frame is moved to the inoperative position, is then raised, the slot 12 being of sufficient depth to permit this, pivoted slightly further backwards and then lowered to detach the slots 12 from the pivots 11. The support arms 1 are provided with projections 22a which extend: under the frames 10 so that the frames will also be raised if the support arms are pivoted upwardly. In a modification, Fig. 3, the frame comprises side arms 23 of' spring material connected by a cross-stay 24, the arms 23 being apertured at 27 to fit pivot pegs 28 on the brackets 3. To remove the frame the side-members 23 are squeezed inwardly to release the pivots 27. The side-members are shaped, at 29, to provide spring supports for button-headed rivets 30 which snap into depressions 31 in the brackets 3 to hold the frame in the inoperative position. In further modifications (not shown) the slots 17 may be provided in guides hinged to the frame to prevent the rollers 20 falling out in the raised position, or a sliding arm may be provided to extend over the clearer pivots as a latch. A frame is provided. at each end of the machine in which the clearers embrace the single line of rollers only. In some cases two frames of single roller, width may be positioned side by side between adjacent support arms.
