Abstract

705,699. Winding. wire &c. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. July 13, 1951, No. 16671/51. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XXXVII] A spooling. machine comprises a reversible three-phase motor 10 driving a spool 15 through gearing 14 and. a magnetic slip clutch 11 which has an exciting winding 18 controlled by rheostat 19. Another motor 20 similarly drives a spool 25. When a wire-drawing or other processing machine which feeds material to the spooling machine is started, contact 30 is closed to energize both a timing, mechanism 70 and a starting relay 90 for the motor 10, the tension of the material being wound on spool 15 being regulated by adjustment of rheostat 19. Upon expiration of the period to which the timer 70 is set the motor 20 is started and the spool 25 is kept at a desired speed by means of a tachometer generator 26 which supplies a vibratory relay 150 having contacts 153 in the circuit of winding 28 of clutch 22, the clutch being alternately energized or de-energized according as to whether the speed of the spool 25 is too low or too high. The initial energization of relay 150 causes the completion of a circuit through reactance coil 38 and a relay 170 which controls a relay 80. the arrangement being such that the relay 80 will only be actuated when a rod- 37, coupled to the transverse mechanism of the spooling machine, moves into the coil 38. When relay 80 is actuated the coil 200 of an electro-pneumatic valve is energized and a piston is moved to transfer material from the full spool 15 to the empty spool 25. The relay 150 is now connected to the tachometer generator 16 and stops vibrating so that the energization of clutch coil 28 remains constant. The motor 10 is braked by application of reverse current and the timer 70 is re-set to zero. As the motor 10 approaches standstill a plugging switch 12 disconnects the motor, the timer 70 then being restarted for another similar cycle of operation during which the full amount of material is wound upon the spool driven by the motor 20 and is then transferred to that driven by the motor 10. When shutting down the spooling machine, the closure of contact 71 of the timer 70 causes the wire-drawing or other processing machine to be stopped, and then the contact 30 is opened to initiate reverse current braking. Specification 691,991 is referred to.
