Abstract
704,594. Type-printing telegraphy. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. May 26, 1952 [June 27, 1951], No. 13292/52. Class 40 (3) In type-printing telegraph apparatus an arrangement for storing the signals to be transmitted comprises storage members arranged to be radially displaceable in a drum and annular elements, entirely or partially surrounding the drum, which are mounted to be displaceable in the direction of the axis of the drum and have extensions sensing the storage members for the signal so that the temporary positions of the said element are characteristic of the elements of a stored signal. Pins 7 frictionally mounted in a drum 5 rotatable on a shaft 1 are selectively set by levers 12 coupled to combination bars 9 moved by the key levers 8. The levers 12 are moved upwardly to push in the appropriate pins by a cam on a shaft 13 carrying a further cam 14 rocking a lever 16 having a pawl 17 which engages a ratchet wheel 6 secured to the pin drum. The shaft 1, which is arranged to be stepped forward with the drum, is integral with a cam 2 which is connected by a link 18 to a spring 19 and carries brackets 3, 4 which support rods 28 ... 32 on which are mounted sensing members 23 ... 27, the member 23 being rigidly attached to the rod 28 and sliding on the other rods, with a similar arrangement for the other members as indicated more clearly in Fig. 2. During rotation of the shaft 13 a ratchet arrangement (not shown) allows a small rotation of the shaft 1 in the direction opposite to that of the pin drum, and the shaped ends 23a ... 27a selectively engage the pins so that a pin which has not been depressed moves its associated sensing member 23 to the right and unblocks the arm 21a so that a contact lever 21, when released by a cam 36, can close contacts 22, the levers 21 being released in sequence. A cam member 37 within the drum restores the pins 7 before they reach the position in which they are set by the keys 8, and the members 23 ... 27 are restored to their normal positions by springs 34 engaging collars 35 on the respective rods. In a modification, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the segmental members 23 ... 27 of Fig. 2 are replaced by complete rings, and the pins are held in their adjusted positions by springs located in axial bores in the drum. In a further modification, Figs 5, 6 (not shown), five sets of pins are radially mounted in two coaxial hollow cylinders with a separate circular spring engaging opposite sides of consecutive pins of each of the circularlyarranged sets of pins
