Abstract

Highly active bleaching earths having a high grain strength are produced by mixing normally activated bleaching earth with raw bleaching earth in the presence of water, drying and granulating. In one embodiment of the invention the raw bleaching earth is in the form of a sludge or slurry; in another, undried activated bleaching earth is mixed with dried raw bleaching earth and the paste moulded and dried. Heat treatment of granulated products at 300-400 DEG C. increases the grain strength. The proportions of raw to activated bleaching earth may be varied to produce bleaching earths with different efficiencies, and salts, metal oxides and other catalysts may be incorporated.
