Abstract

703,980. Heating motor vehicles. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Nov. 28, 1952 [Dec. 3, 1951], No. 30267/52. Class 64(2) Warm air is supplied to the interior of a motor vehicle having a radiator 3 through which air is sucked by a fan 9 into a funnel 8 and thence to a duct 10 in which is placed an adjustable radiator shutter 11. Between the fan and the shutter is a branch pipe leading air from the duct through a heat-exchanger 14 where the air is heated in its passage to the interior by the engine coolant led through.a by-pass pipe 15 placed between the flow and return pipes 2, 4 connecting: the cooling jacket of the engine with the radiator. A pump 5 returns the coolant from the radiator to the jacket and flow to the radiator may be short-circuited by a pipe 7, the flow being controlled by a thermostat 6. The flow of the coolant through the heat-exchanger is controlled by a cock 16, and the shutter 11 is adjusted by linkage 12. In an alternative arrangement the heat-exchanger is placed in the short-circuit pipe 7 or the by-pass 15 is dimensioned to act also as a shortcircuit.
