Abstract
703,652. Pick carrying chains. PROCTOR, S. E., and HOY & CO., Ltd.; A. May 30, 1952 [May 30, 1951], No. 12779/51. Addition to 626,080. Class 68(1) [Also in Group XXV] In a tool-carrying chain such as the coal-cutter chain described in the parent Specification, in which the links are connected by ball-and-socket joints, the socket liner surrounding the ball is in two parts, which are inserted through a bore which may be along or transverse to the axis of the chain. The ball 24 and stem 20 form a separate member. In assembling, the two halves of the liner are placed in position in the socket, with the ball between them, and then welded or riveted in place. The stem 20 is then secured in the upper part 14 of the adjacent link by a rivet 22. Alternatively the ball and stem may be integral with the part 14. A slot 30 through the part 14 allows extrusion of the dust which collects in the spaces between the undersides of the links in which the teeth of the driving sprocket fit.
