Abstract

703,243. Potato harvesters. RANSOMES, SIMS & JEFFERIES (WATFORD), Ltd. June 7, 1951 [March 7, 1950], No. 5705/50. Class 6 (3) In a potato harvester of the kind in which the crops are transferred to a rotating platform 1 which is radially slotted or provided with radially extending fingers 2 upon which the soil is separated from the crop, a movable brush is disposed at or near the point of discharge from the platform so as to contact the platform over the whole length of the slots or fingers. As shown brushes 44 are pivoted on cross pins 45 extending across two endless belts or chains 46 running over pulleys or sprockets 47, 48. In a modification the brush comprises bristles mounted upon an endless belt mounted on rollers which replace the sprockets 47, 48. In a further modification the brush comprises bristles mounted on the underside of a rotatable disc. A resilient apron or skirt is provided to prevent the crop coming into contact with the bristles.
