Abstract
703,116. Generating combustion products under pressure. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 24, 1951 [Oct. 31, 1950], No. 24866/51. Class 51 (1) In a combustion chamber having a flame tube 2 with openings 8 therein for the admission of cooling air, means for directing the air circumferentially over the inner surface of the flame tube comprises a deflecting member 9 having a portion 10 inside the flame tube close to the inner surface and parallel thereto and a second portion 12 at right angles to the first portion and projecting through an opening to outside the flame tube. The deflecting member is attached to the outer surface of the flame tube by means of bridge pieces 14 engaging slots 13 in the webs 12 and welded thereto and also welded to the outer surface of the flame tube. The openings 8 comprise five, six or seven equidistantly-spaced slots of considerable axial length and the deflector members comprise a number of sections separately attached to the flame tube and longitudinally spaced from each other, each section being attached to the flame tube near one end only, the sections being kept in alignment by pins 16 projecting into the ends. Rows' of additional combustion and dilution air inlet holes 17 are provided in the flame tube between the openings 8. Dimensions and proportions of the air inlet openings are given.
