Abstract

Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4) A tool for cutting-off and bending single spring rings of wire with sharp bends at the free ends 6, 14 comprises an axially movable blade 12 the end surface 11 of which stands at the bending angle to the direction of movement, a bending punch 15 moving together with the blade and which is similarly formed to the latter but set back in the direction of movement by the thickness of the ring wire 5; and a counter tool of corresponding form to the blade and punch and consisting of a counter-blade 10 and counterpunch 13 with saw-tooth-like projections of uniform height. At the end of each cutting operation, the bent end 6 is left on a half-turn of wire which is thus forced into a roller tool to produce one and a half turns as shown in Fig. 2a. The next advance of the tool and punch runs the wire along the line 8 and simultaneously forms two further bend ends; one end 14 on the same ring as the end 6, and the other immediately behind the latter to form one end of the following ring. The counter-blade and counterpunch may be formed integrally with the tool while the blade 12 and punch- 15 are preferably formed as axially adjustable steel punches.
