Abstract
702,826. Making pen nibs. TRIPPAS, A. W., and JONES, S. M. March 2, 1951 [March 10, 1950; Sept. 5, 1950], Nos. 6036/50 and 21814/50 Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XV] Forging.-A pen nib has a point formed by turning up a pair of wing-like portions projecting laterally on each side of the longitudinal axis of the blank 'from which the nib is made. the wing-like portions of the blank being of greater thickness than the remainder of the blank. The nib 12 (Fig. 1) is stamped from a sheetmetal blank 10 which has a rib of increased thickness 11 from which the point of the nib is stamped. The wing-like portions 16 (Figs. 4, 5) of the point of the nib are then bent upwardly to the position shown, after which the nib is slit longitudinally at 18, the inner end of the slit being of circular form 19 and the nib bent to a trough cross section to bring the edges of the slit 18 and side portion 16 of the point into contact (Fig. 7). The point of the nib is finally acted upon by dies, Fig. 8 (not shown) to form it intc a substantially spherical shape. Specification 647,014 is referred to.
