Abstract

702,702. Disc brakes. GIRLING, Ltd. Dec. 18, 1952 [Oct. 15, 1951], No. 23923/51. Class 103(1) In a spot type single disc brake, the housing for the three pairs of opposed piston and cylinder actuator devices is formed as a pressing or as two or more' pressings welded or copper brazed together. As shown in Fig. 3, the housing comprised a pressing 10 having a flange into which fits the flange of a pressing 11 of slightly smaller dimensions, and which is extended inwardly to provide a torque taking attachment plate 17. The pressings are dished inwardly in the region of the centre actuator cylinder so that the housing has a " dumb-bell " shape in plan view as shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 shows a section through the centre actuator cylinders in a brake assembly of similar construction and Fig. 6 shows a section on the axis of one of the outer cylinders showing the manner in which a fluid pressure connection is made between opposed cylinders the arrangement of which is similar to that described in Specification 688,382.
