Abstract

702,348. Knots. MELLOR, BROMLEY & CO., Ltd. June 6, 1952 [June 26, 1951], No. 15148/51. Class 112 A knot suitable for mechanically tying together at least two ends of any kind of yarn is produced by a method which includes making at least one loop of one or both yarn ends with' the aid of. a hooked instrument, drawing through the loop, by the instrument, a further loop, or the first of a plurality of successively interengaged loops, of either or both yarns, and manipulating the instrument to engage either or both of the yarn ends and pull it or them through the lastformed loop. In Fig. 13 the yarn 2 has been engaged by a latch needle which has then been rotated to form three loops 7, the needle has then been projected through the loops to engage another part of the same yarn and draw it through the loops to form a loop 8, and the end cf the other yarn 1, initially laid parallel to the yarn 2, has been similarly drawn through the loop 8; the ends of the yarn 2 are now to be pulled, to form the knot by drawing the loop 8 out of the loops 7 and thereby drawing a loop of the yarn 1 into the loops 7, and the knot is then tightened by pulling on both yarns. The yarn 1 is preferably trimmed before being drawn into the loops 7. The number of loops 7 may be reduced to two or one, and a single loop may be twisted if desired. Two knots may be formed back to back a short distance apart on the same yarns. In a modification, instead of drawing the end of the yarn 1 through the loop 8 a second similar loop of either or both of the yarns may be drawn through the loop 8 and may be followed by a further similar loop or loops before the end of one or each yarn is pulled through the last loop to complete the concatenation, the knot then being formed and tightened as before. Specification 702,347 is referred to.
