Abstract

1349782 Hair pieces M D'ATABEKIAN 17 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 15221/71 Heading A4V [Also in Division B6] A continuous fringe for making hair pieces is made by repeatedly performing a cycle which comprises the steps of holding the support or backing filament in an extended condition, forming at least one loose hitch knot with the fed filament, passing the support filament through the hitch knot, tightening the fed filament around the support filament and cutting the fed filament to form strands. As shown in Fig.3-5 a fed filament 22 is passed over the fingers 24 and 26 connected at one end to the other by a pivot 28, the filament forming a U-shape the base of the U extending between the fingers. The two fingers lie in a common plane and can pivot with respect to each other in this common plane about the pivot 28. The fork is then pivoted about an axis parallel to the base of the U so as to form loops 30 and 32 of fed filament extending around fingers 24 and 26 of the fork. The two fingers 24, 26 are then moved towards one another by pivoting around pivot 28 so that the loops 30, 32 form two loose hitch knots in parallel planes. A spool on which is wound the support filament is then passed through the two knots to introduce the support filament, fingers 24, 26 are separated and returned to their initial position, the two strands of fed filament are pulled to tighten the knots around the support filament, whereafter the fed filament is cut to give strands of the required length. The support filament can be a twisted sewing thread. The fed filament may comprise a plurality of strands. The resulting fringes may be used for wig making.
