Abstract
701,946. Pulse generating circuits. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 28, 1952 [Oct. 3, 1951], No. 23078/51. Class 40 (6) A pulse generating circuit comprises a reflecting transmission line which is connected to a load in the anode circuit of a valve which has its grid held at constant potential and a cathode which is normally biased to cut-off but which is periodically driven negative to cause the valve to conduct thus initiating the generation of a pulse. The Figure shows a pulse generating circuit in which valves V1 and V2 are normally non-conductive, the control grid of valve V2 being clamped by the voltage drop across resistor R3 in the cathode circuit of a constant-current pentode valve V3. When a positive pulse is applied to terminal TRIP valve V1 conducts, the cathode of valve V2 is taken negative so that valve V2 conducts. The drop in voltage at the anode of valve V2 causes a negative going pulse to be applied to the input of the delay line, TL, the pulse is reflected at the distant short-circuited end and is thus applied back to the anode with reversed polarity to terminate the pulse, thus producing a negative-going pulse at terminal OUT.
