Abstract
701,678. Batteries. YARDNEY INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION, [formerly YARDENY INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION]. Dec. 6, 1950 [April 4, 1950], No. 30458/52. Divided out of 701,643. Class 53. The positive electrode of an accumulator consists of two portions of active material 12a, 12b enclosed in the limbs of a U-shaped envelope 15 of semipermeable material, the bight 20 of the envelope being free from active material. The negative electrode 11 is situated between the limbs of the envelope. The envelope may be made of layers of regenerated cellulose and absorbent paper and the positive electrode may be made by first enclosing the active material in porous paper wrappers 14a, 14b and placing the wrapped portions on a sheet of regenerated cellulose which is then folded over to enclose the wrapped portions of active material. Further wrappings of regenerated cellulose or paper may be added and the whole then folded into U-shape. The negative electrode is enclosed in a porous wrapper 13. The positive and negative active materials may consist respectively of silver and powdered zinc or zinc oxide mixed with yellow oxide of mercury, the electrolyte being a solution of caustic potash saturated with zinc oxide. Specifications 680,793, 682,164, 683,165, 698,405, 701,641, 701,642, 701,643 and 701,644 are referred to.
