Abstract

701,077. Berths. LEWIS, J. R. March 2, 1953 [Feb. 28, 1952], No. -5220/52. Class 52(2) A vehicle seat in which the seat back can be pivoted forwardly to give access to a rear seat. The seat back is arranged to be pivoted rearwardly to bridge the space between the seating surfaces of a front and rear seat to form a berth, means being also provided normally to prevent the seat back being pivoted rearwardly. As shown the seat frame 2 is provided at each side with a cheek 1 provided with a slot 6 to acccommodate a trunnion pin 3 arranged on the seat back frame 4, 5. An abutment 7 is provided on the cheeks 1 so that the seat back can be pivoted forwardly but not rearwardly until the seat back is raised to clear the abutment 7 whereupon the seat back may be lowered rearwardly to rest on an abutment 9 carried by the front of the rear seat. A pin and hole 8 normally prevents accidental lifting of the seat back.
