Abstract

700,595. Spray-producers. VITAL MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and ANDERSON, R. W. Nov 6, 1952 [June 19, 1952], No. 15452/52. Class 69 (3) Paint is supplied to a spraying device via a coil located in a heated water bath, and the fluidity of the paint is maintained during non- spraying periods by means of steam or heated compressed air supplied from a second coil located in the water bath. The apparatus includes a vessel 10 containing concentric coils 14, 15 and 16, for the passage respectively of air, steam and paint. The inlet and outlet connections to and from the coils are arranged on the vessel cover 12, and include control valves, and the outlet from the steam coil includes a steam trap arranged to discharge steam condensate into the vessel. A thermometer, a water level gauge, a filling pipe and vent 37, and an overflow pipe 35 are provided. When spraying is discontinued a valve 27 is opened, and heated compressed air is delivered through a capillary tube 39 to adjacent a pipe 33, Fig. 4, feeding the paint to the gun. The pipe is flexible, and is enclosed within a flexible tube 38 to which is connected at 40 the heated air which flows to a number of outlets 41. Alternatively, the pipe 39 is connected to a further capillary tube which enters one end of the tube 38 and opens into the other end, and the air escape holes are located at said one end. In a further embodiment, the tube 39 is connected to a looped capillary tube arranged within the paint pipe, and one end of the looped tube discharges to atmosphere. The compressed air coil may be dispensed with, in which case steam is passed to the tube 38 or the capillary tubing, and then discharged into the vessel 10.
