Abstract

700,465. Compound sheet materials. THAIN, Ltd., R. Dec. 31, 1951 [Jan. 1, 1951], No. 85/51. Class 140 A roofing unit comprises a metal base sheet 1, an intermediate corrugated metal sheet 4 secured to the base sheet, and an upper sheet of insulating material 6 such as asbestos board bonded to the upper surface of the corrugated sheet, e.g. with bitumen, at least the outer exposed surface of the insulating material being' of waterproof material, such as bitumen-impregnated asbestos felt. A layer of this material may also be bonded to the underside of metal sheet 1 by a layer of bitumen. Sheet 6 and metal base 1 may be cut away at opposite longitudinal ends to facilitate joining of the sections. The insulating sheet may also be cut away at the side edges, the resulting gaps in the laid roof being filled with strips of insulating material bonded by bitumen to the exposed edges of adjacent sheets 4.
