Abstract

700,462. Turbine and compressor rotors. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. Oct. 8, 1951 [Aug. 1, 1950], No. 19181/50. Class 110 (3) A rotor for an axial-flow turbine or compressor comprises a thin-walled tube 1 of substantially uniform diameter in which are disposed axially-spaced discs 2 and on which are mounted axially-spaced blade-carrying rings 3, the discs and rings being co-planar and being brazed to the tube. The discs have axiallywidened rims 2a and increase in thickness towards the centre. The rings are of H-section with radial slots in which the blade roots are secured by brazing. In the compressor shown the radial height of the webs of the rings 3 increases towards the discharge of the compressor, and the tube 1 has an extension 1b which is connected to a turbine rotor 10. The inlet end of the tube 1 is supported by a dished ring 6 which carries the first-stage blades 5 and is formed with a stub-shaft 6b. The outer surface of the tube 1 is stepped so as to afford locating shoulders 1a for the rings 3. Frusto-conical rings 7 are disposed between the rings 3 to complete the inner surface of the working fluid annulus. A labyrinth seal 8, 9 is provided. Specification 694,651 is referred to.
