Abstract
Dyeings on cellulose ester or ether fibres have their resistance to combustion products of coal gas improved by the incorporation in the material of an alkali metal phthalate. The process is especially applicable to cellulose acetate dyed with aminoanthraquinone derivatives, alone or mixed with cellulose fibres dyed with direct colours, or with other fibres such as silk or wool. The amount of phthalate used may be 0.5-2 per cent by p weight of the material. It is applied from aqueous solution by impregnation, e.g. padding. Examples show the application of 1 per cent of disodium phthalate to (1) a cellulose acetate fabric dyed with the blue product of reaction of leuco-quinigarin with a mixture of methylamine and ethanolamine; (2) a cellulose acetate/cotton mixed fabric dyed green with a mixture of 1-methylamino-2-phenylaminoanthraquinone, 2 - nitro - 4 - chloro - 4\sv - methoxydiphenylamine, Chlorantine Fast Blue GLL and Chlorantine Fast Yellow 2RLL. According to the Provisional Specification alkali metal citrates may be used in place of phthalates.
