Abstract
700,358. Conditioning tobacco. GUARDITE CORPORATION. Sept. 14, 1950, No. 22608/50. Class 130 Moistening of a bulk material such as a hogshead 11, Fig. 1, or hogsheads of tobacco, is effected by subjecting it, when under vacuum in a chamber 10, to an atmosphere produced by mutually imping- ing streams or sprays of steam and superheated water respectively. A ring of alternating water and steam nozzles directed towards a common centre may be used, but, as shown, supply pipes 13, 14 for water and superheated or substantially saturated steam, both under superatmospheric pressure, have opposed nozzle plugs 16, 20 normally situated substantially above the centre of each hogshead within the chamber. The plugs 20 are removably screwed directly into the pipes 14 and the plugs 16 into tapered branch pipes 15, Fig. 2, welded to the pipe 13. Specifications 488,638 and 508,264 are referred to.
