Abstract

700,188. Sterilizing. APLIN & BARRETT. Jan. 16, 1952 [Jan 18, 1951], No. 1415/51. Class 81(1) Caps for containers of foodstuffs and beverages are sterilized before their application to the containers by being passed close to a high frequency induction heating coil situated near the point at which the containers are capped. A capping machine of known type may be employed and preferably the parts of the machine adjacent the heating coil are made from, or are plated with, a metal of high heat conductivity or from a material which is a non-conductor of electricity. As shown in Fig. 2 the caps 8 are fed along a track 9 by a feeder blade (not shown) and are then carried round a curved part 10 of the track by a rotating arm (not shown) under an induction heating coil 11 and thence to a position 12 where they meet the containers 13, fed from a filling machine (not shown). After capping the containers and caps are secured together by seaming.
