Abstract
1,087,588. Lining container closures. W. R. GRACE & CO. Feb. 1, 1966 [Feb. 2, 1965], No. 4467/66. Heading B2K. In a method of lining container closures with a lining composition containing an elastomer and a suspending vapourisable liquid a plurality of closures is heated to a temperature to permit the successive closures to reach a lining station at a lining temperature which is sufficiently high to evaporate said suspending liquid, but not so high as to cause disruptive ebullition of the composition, lining the sealing area of the closure while the said closure is at said lining temperature whereby the suspending liquid is evaporated and the composition becomes solid by reason of the heat transferred from the closure. The closures may be metallic and the heating may be induction heating at frequencies between 50 and 10,000 c/p/s. In the apparatus of Fig. 2 a conventional lining machine is provided with a heating coil 13 which is connected to leads 16 and 17 which do not conduct electrical energy, induction heating, and cooling water. The closures pass to the lining station at + 30F (16-7C) of the boiling of the boiling point of the suspending fluid. The lining composition may be a styrenebutadiene rubber.
