Class 59 A grinding apparatus comprises a revoluble or oscillatory body 1 having grooves, at least two of which are deeper than the rest. The deep grooves 2 are provided to receive grains of material which are too large for the other grooves and carry them into the progressively-decreasing nip between the rotor 1 and the abrading surface of a sieve or grating 4 through which the ground material falls. A lever 5 rotates the rotor 1 which is journalled in a housing 6. The rotor may be of spherical shape and may have other than rectilinear grooves therein, e.g. helical grooves.
