Abstract
699,838. Making pit props;. welding. HAARMANN, A. Aug. 16, 1951 [Aug. 19, 1950], No. 19364/51. Addition to 669,876, [Group X]. Classes 83(ii) and 83 (iv). [Also in Group X] The ribs 6 on the inner prop member 4 of the pit prop claimed in the parent Specification comprise steel of great hardness (between 400 and 650 Brinell) and are welded on by hard surfacing electrode means. The electrodes are of alloyed steel containing 1 to 2 per cent of chromium, 1 to 2 per cent of tungsten and about 1 per cent carbon. The tungsten content can be replaced, at least in part, by titanium. The electrodes consist of thin wire covered with a coating of mineral substances having acid and basic constituents which are able to form a readily flowing slag to protect the material to be welded and to prevent burning out of constituents of the alloy.
