Abstract
699,474. Wrapping-machines. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., HOPTON, A., and RUSSELL, A. May 2, 1952 [May 4. 1951]. No. 10506/51. Class 94(i) [Also in Group XXX] The pockets of the intermittently-moving feed conveyer 10 of the biscuit wrapping machine described in Specification 684,252 are charged with biscuits from multiple magazines by means which withdraws simultaneously from each magazine a batch consisting of a number less than that required to fill a pocket and then deposits the batches on edge, each in one of a number of consecutive feed pockets at points offset from one another, so that each pocket receives, until it is full, a plurality of batches which are deposited side-by-side in it. The machine described is provided with three magazines and three sets of charging mechanisms, each of which supplies a pocket with nine biscuits in three batches of three, one from each magazine. Each magazine 26, 126, 226, Fig. 3, comprises siderails 28 and an intermittently-driven endless belt 27 inclined at about an angle of fifteen degrees to the horizontal on which the biscuits are placed on edge. The biscuits pass from a belt 27 over a dead plate 29, Fig. 4, into a channel in a member 30 along which they are raised by a pusher 31 into a pocket 32 of a pivoted transfer member 33, 133, 233. Each of these members moves the biscuits along a plate 67 between side guides 68 into position above three consecutive pockets of the conveyer and between one pair of pairs of plungers 44, 45; 144, 145 and 244, 245 arranged below and above the conveyer. The member 33 transfers the biscuits to position A above the right hand third of the leading pocket, while the members 133, 233 move them to position B above the centre of the next pocket and to position C above the left hand third of the third pocket, respectively. The bottom plungers rise through the pockets into alignment with the plates 67 just before batches of biscuits arrive at the ends of the plates, and when a batch is on a plunger, the corresponding plunger above descends on top of it. The plungers descend together until the biscuits are deposited on the inturned flanges 22 of the pocket walls 14. Means are provided for tilting each bottom plunger as it enters a pocket away from the biscuits already deposited in it.
