699,169. Lubricating valves. BOORER, A. April 7, 1952. No. 8870/52. Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi) The casing of, a cylindrical rotary valve is provided with a bush or bushes which encircle the valve and are made of porous material of coalesced particles of metal, carbon or graphite, and means are provided for feeding lubricant to some part of the outer surface of the bush or bushes. The bushes may be made of sintered bronze, and lubricating oil, preferably from the engine sump, is fed for example to recesses in the valve casing adjacent the outer surfaces of the bushes. The rotating valve member may be formed with a hardened surface, and a single bush may extend along the whole length of the valve. The invention is particularly. applicable to engines such as are described in Specifications 566,416, 566,450, 586,703 and, 587,332, comprising rotary inlet and exhaust valves sealed from the engine cylinder by a master poppet valve, in which at least the exhaust valve may be provided with the porous bush.
